To convert movies from the most popular video formats, XVID, DIVX, and AVI to a DVD that you can watch in your home DVD player, you will need TMPGEnc (free) and TMPGEnc DVD Author .(Trial Version lasts for 30 days, after that $37 dollars) This guide also assumes you have a DVD burner and a blank DVD.

1) Start TMPGEnc. The Project Wizard will be displayed.

2) Select NTSC if in the US/Canada or PAL if in Europe. Select CBR MPEG1 Layer II audio [MP2]

3) Click next and you should be greeted with the source selection screen. It will look similar to this:

3 cont) Select your video file and your audio file will automatically appear. In the video type drop box select Interlace. In the Field Order Drop box select Top field first [Field A]. In the Aspect Ratio Drop Boz select 1:1 [VGA]. In the content of video drop box select Video Movie. Click Next.

4) On the third project wizard screen, skip it by clicking next. You should now be at the forth project window screen.

5) On the forth project wizard screen, select the check boxes by the words "auto setting" and "auto select." Make sure your file size is less than 100% of disk capacity.

 

6) Click Next. You may get a warning that the file you are about to create excedes the size of the disk. Ignore it and click OK. You should now be on project wizard screen 5 of 5.

 

7)Select the place on your harddrive where you want your files to be outputted and click OK. TMPGEnc will start encoding your file. Depending on the size of your file and the speed of your processor, this could take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours.

8) When TMPGEnc is done encoding your video, close the program.

9) Open TMPGEnc DVD Author

10) Select the source setup button as shown below. Click the "add file" button to the right and add the file that you have just encoded . Your screen should look similar to the one below.

11) If
desired, you may click on the create menu button on the TMPGEnc DVD Author program to add a menu to your DVD. I won't go into detail, just play around with it. When finished click on the output button in your TMPGEnc DVD program.

) Select where you want you file to be outputted, then click on the begin output button. This will take 8 to 30 minutes depending on the speed of your processor and the size of your video. When TMPGEnc DVD Author finishes outputting, a windows will pop up asking you if you want to open TMPGEnc DVD Writer. Click Yes. Put a blank DVD in your DVD recorder and then select Write DVD from the DVD Writing Tool as shown below.
13) Thats it. Pop the your DVD into your player and enjoy.
